The Leica Lady, Emily Therese, and I, The Leica Guy went to “the construction site” to shoot with KT for my cigar noir project. It was a playground. We spent about an hour shooting with Leica M9-P’s. Mine was equipped with .95 Noctilux. Hers with an f/1.

Emily Therese, The Leica lady, and I went to a wedding on Martha’s Vineyard for my “Step-Sister-In Law” and her new husband. I had never been to Martha’s Vineyard before and it was quite a time getting there…drive… ferry… drive… but needless to say, it was a fun time for the weekend despite the rooms having paper thin walls and the fog horns blowing the entire time.

These shots were taken with a Leica M9-P + .95 Noctilux. Except for two – the pier and the wide screen image – which were taken with a Canon 5dmkii. I was asked by the bride to video the wedding. So Emily got a ton of photos and I just did the video and a few snaps.

Even More Cigar Time

Emily Therese, The Leica Lady, and I went to NYC for the weekend. We met up with model/actress Shayna D’Albora and hung out and shot some photos. Later Emily and I went to a friend’s 60th birthday party at the zoo in central park. The next morning we hung out with Jackie and Antonio and went thrifting. It was nice to be back in NYC.

This is pretty much it for my edits. I do have a memory card from the Leica X1 that I haven’t even looked at yet – so perhaps there will be more. But this is the final batch (I am going to make prints) from MY Leica M9 honeymoon photos. We still have to do the Leica Lady’s work… but since she started law school, time in front of the computer without law notes is pretty rare.

Some additional images from the Honeymoon. I think we both feel the same way – we should never have come home.

I saw some references on one of the forums devoted to Leica enthusiasts (read: freaks) asking about some of my editing techniques. Unless you have specific questions, all I can say is that I load them into photoshop. I work mostly in Adobe Camera Raw. Then I do touch ups in photoshop. Usually less than 5 minutes per photo. Only a special case (something akin to an HDR…) requires more than that. These are the photos that I love taking because I take them for me. (Or in this case – I took them for us; both me and the Leica Lady, Emily Therese.)

September 2011 – Urban Aces magazine does a feature on Sid Vintage. Emily Therese and I were brought in to do the photos. I decided shooting in the store would be a great way to capture the venue along with showcasing how much GREAT STUFF they have for sale there.

First Batch of Honeymoon Photos

The previous photos from our Honeymoon were edited on the Honeymoon with Adobe Lightroom. I had never really used Lightroom previous to this trip… but it was all I had. I honestly felt pretty naked – despite the fact that I really only edit in Adobe Camera Raw. But the ability to use some of my presets for raw processing was bugging me. So now I am back in my digital darkroom… and I was able to get through some that I wanted to share.

The Leica Lady and I went to Praiano, Italy for our Honeymoon. We had been in Italy a few years earlier but only saw Rome, which honestly, our experience there paled in comparison to our experience in Paris just days earlier. So this was something completely different. For those of you who don’t know where Praiano is – it’s part of the amalfi coast (or basically the Shin – of the boot of Italy).

We spent about 5 days there… and had an amazing trip.

Adventures in Babysitting… er… Film

I recently purchased a Leica IIIf Red Dial Self Timer camera kit on ebay and it is jaw-droppingly gorgeous. Included in the kit was the Leica IIIf Red Dial Self Timer body (serial #770089, ca. 1955) w/grey vulcanite, standard baseplate, takeup spool; Ernst Leitz Wetzlar 50mm f/2 Summicron (serial #921075, approx. 1951) w/front Leica cap; Ernst Leitz Wetzlar IROOA lens hood for Summicron lens; Ernst Leitz Wetzlar ‘Leicavit’ rapid winder w/original box; Ernst Leitz Wetzlar SBLOO 35mm brightline finder; Leica ever-ready case and strap for Leica camera w/Leicavit (bottom screw included but separate from case); Leica IIIf instruction manual; Leica box for LUOOX IIIF (Leica IIIf w/50mm f/2 Summicron) — not original to this camera; Chrome metal chain strap (not sure if Leica or not).

These images were taken with a vintage Leica iiif loaded with 400cn black and white film. The location is an abandoned industrial complex in Easthampton, Massachusetts. I am not sure what it was used for – but it certainly isn’t clear now considering how far abandoned and demolished it is. Makes for a great location for photos though.
